Crime scene investigation, tracking the chain of evidence, investigative interviewing -- it's all part of the critical and often life-saving work that law enforcement officials do every day within the criminal justice system. At Champlain College, you'll learn about all aspects of the criminal justice system -- from police work and the courts to the bargaining skills that are often necessary to achieve justice.
Champlain's Criminal Justice program provides a solid foundation for just about any job in law enforcement, corrections or investigation -- or for further study in the field of law. You'll learn about criminal law, criminal procedure, policing, investigation, corrections, juvenile justice, and domestic violence. The courses are highly focused and in-depth, designed to teach you the social, legal, and ethical issues relevant to the criminal justice profession today. You'll also learn about incarceration and the penal system, parole and probation, and report writing.
Through Champlain's unique upside-down curriculum, you'll develop a solid foundation in criminal justice your first two years. In Years 3 and 4, you'll take advanced courses in criminal justice while developing the enhanced communication and problem-solving skills this profession demands. Plus, you'll earn practical, hands-on experience through a required internship, with the option of attending the Vermont Police Academy or the Federal Law Enforcement
Training Center in your fourth year. With security a top concern for our nation, the demand for qualified leaders in law enforcement and criminal justice systems has never been greater.
