Program Purpose
The purpose of this program is to offer a liberal arts education in dance which is centered in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Upon the completion of this degree the student will be prepared for post-baccalaureate programs, or for teaching, performing and/or choreographing within the private sector.
Expected Learning Outcomes
1. Students will participate in and present dance in a manner which reflects values centered in the gospel of Jesus Christ.
2. Students will show a deep respect for the sacredness of the human body through artistic sensitivity, movement discipline, and scientific understanding.
3. Students will be able to articulate the value of dance in its many aspects.
4. Students will develop an understanding of, appreciation for, and participation in cultural aspects of dance.
5. Students will learn basic dance etiquette and social skills.
6. Students will demonstrate advanced skills in the artistic elements of dance including technique, performance, and choreography.
7. Students will demonstrate sound pedagogical theories and applications.
8. Students will demonstrate a broad academic base in dance.
9. Students will engage in research, discussion, presentation, and writing which enhances analytical and communication skills.
10. Students will exhibit leadership skills.
11. Students will participate actively in professional organizations and show advocacy for dance.
12. Students will develop a desire for lifelong learning and service.
