Dance with Dance Teaching Certification P – 12

The Birmingham Southern College Dance Program offers the the B.A. in Dance with Dance Teaching Certification P – 12 and also welcomes those who wish to study dance as an elective part of their liberal arts education. Based in classical ballet, Dance majors also enjoy exploring a variety of other dance techniques.
Dancers Students must be placed by prior audition into upper level dance classes, and must pass a Faculty review by the end of the Sophomore year in order to be eligible for either of the majors in Dance.
Classes in the Dance major include all levels of ballet technique, classical ballet repertoire, jazz, modern, dance performance, dance history, pedagogy, and choreography. Music labs, Pilates, Tap, and anatomy and injury studies are also offered. Pianists accompany all levels of ballet classes, and nutrition counseling is offered on an as-needed basis by a Registered Dietician. In addition, Master classes with guest artists from regional professional companies are offered on a regular basis.
