Unemployment, inflation and poverty are among the most important issues facing society today. As an economics major at Agnes Scott, you will learn to understand the basic theories that explain these issues and examine ways they can be managed. As an economics and business major, you will use economic theory in a variety of business applications. Students in the Economics department learn to write and speak using economic analysis, increasing their ability to work effectively and productively. You have the opportunity to gain hands-on practical experience through an internship in a professional environment. A grant from the Kauffman Foundation makes it possible for the department to offer paid internships to some students. These students work with women entrepreneurs who operate their own firms, giving students the opportunity to glean insight into the profession through a female perspective.
What will I study?
The department offers introductory business courses and courses in economic theory as well as a variety of electives in economics and in business. Economics courses are lively and interesting, geared to examine economics in today’s national and international business climate. Topics of interest to many students include courses in Money and Banking, Economic Forecasting, Investments, International Economics, Poverty and Discrimination, Environmental Economics and Business Law.
