Over the past several decades, electrical engineering, together with materials science and physics, has ushered in a host of technical breakthroughs. Advances in storage, display, and microprocessors have provided the foundations for modern computing and imaging systems.

Undergraduates can learn the foundations of this field and master important aspects of the analysis, design, and synthesis of the devices and systems that make possible modern computation, communications, and control.

Studying Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) as part of the Engineering Science concentration is distinct from, but parallel to the Computer Science concentration. In EECS, more emphasis is placed on understanding hardware and building devices than on software or theory. While developing solid programming skills is often necessary, that is not the end goal.

Particular subfields include circuits and VLSI (pictured above: circular standing wave oscillator), communications and signal processing, computer engineering, intelligent systems and computer vision, photonics and optical devices, RF, microwaves, and antennas, stochastic systems, and systems and control.

As a student in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science you can ...

-Learn fundamentals that are the underpinning of electrical and computer engineering.

-Master important aspects of the analysis, design, and synthesis of the devices and systems of modern computation, communication, and control.

-Investigate computer vision, speech recognition, communication networks, magnetic storage, computer architecture, VLSI design, and robotics.
