ECE is the largest department in the College, and has the fastest growing undergraduate enrollments in Computer Engineering. While we admitted over 500 freshmen engineering students as recently as 1985, we now are controlling quality and admitting only 325 per class year. Of these, about 100 matriculate in ECE. Over time, we tend to attract another 25 or 30 transfers or undecided majors into our department. ECE graduates about 120 seniors.
We pride ourselves for developing a strong laboratory curriculum to accompany our classroom teaching for undergraduates. Having moved into a new building in the Spring of 1997, we have excellent teaching labs with up-to-date equipment. Undergraduates are encouraged to get involved with research and development efforts in faculty labs, through FROP (Freshman Research Opportunity Program), UROP (Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program), work study, or student employment. Engineering is an applied science, and we think you should start applying what you learn in the classroom as soon as possible.
