The area of Elementary Education prepares students to earn a Bachelor of Science degree Elementary Education and Kentucky Teacher Certification in Elementary Education, grades P (primary) – 5.
All elementary education students select an area of emphasis in Social Behavioral Studies. Completion of a content area in addition to the professional Educational Studies courses provides an additional benefit for the elementary teacher who might find him/herself participating in a school with a "departmentalized" structure and teaching several classes of one or two areas of emphasis.
In addition to coursework that meets Kentucky state teacher guidelines and Brescia's degree requirements, students participate in a wide variety of field and clinical experiences that allow them opportunities to work with students and teachers in area classrooms and to teach lessons they have planned. By the completion of the Educational Studies program and before beginning the student teaching semester, education majors will have spent over 150 hours in classrooms working directly with students. Many of these field experiences include opportunities to design and deliver integrated units of study to whole classes or to develop intense tutorial instruction with individuals or small groups of students.
