Exceptional Learning and Development Major will prepare you to teach children with exceptionalities. In this course path, you will learn about current trends and issues in special education, and you’ll be prepared upon graduation to seek licensure in special education for kindergarten through twelfth grade.
You’ll learn about specific disabling conditions and corresponding educational programs and services, and you’ll learn about individualized education plans as well as about federal and state litigation and legislation in special education. You’ll learn in-depth about teaching children with developmental delays as well as children with exceptional talents and those with behavior disorders. Finally, during your senior year, you will take part in Bethel’s Student Teaching Program for one semester where you will assist current classroom teachers in teaching a class. You will perform many tasks such as planning and organizing lesson plans, and you will actually teach in the classroom.
