The Major in Family Consumer Sciences Education is designed for the student seeking certification to teach in elementary and secondary education. Students major in the subject area most closely related to what they would like to teach. Teacher certification requires application to the Education Department; a 2.5 grade point average; and passing scores on the Praxis I exam. Upon completion of the program, passing scores on Praxis II are required for secondary education. In addition to academic expertise and classroom capability, teacher education programs promote lifelong learning, professionalism, understanding of diversity, technological literacy, and knowledge of special education.
