Forensic Science Program Mission
Our mission as a forensic science program is to develop professional, ethical graduates whose competence in problem-solving, legal analysis and application, quantitative reasoning, investigation and scientific laboratory procedures can be applied to immediate employment or advanced study.

Forensic Science Program Goals:
  • Produce professional graduates with
    o Critical thinking and analysis abilities
    o Laboratory skills to exacting standards of precision and care
    o Problem-solving skills
    o Ability to apply diverse information to solve a real problem
    o Conceptual understanding of criminal justice system
    o Excellent oral and written communication skills
    o Professional demeanor
  • Obtain and maintain program accreditation
  • Sustain an average of 5 graduates per year.
  • Prepare students for post baccalaureate study or employment.

    Forensic Science Educational Objectives:
  • Develop criitical thinking and analysis in a stepwise fashion that builds through the sequence of courses.
  • Develop problem-solving skills in a stepwise fashion that builds through the sequence of courses.
  • Culminate in a capstone course experience that requires synthesis of diverse skills and abilities in the solution of a real problem.
  • Laboratory skills to exacting standards of precision and care, including spectroscopic and wet chemical methods of analysis, microscopy, molecular biotechnologic methods, comparative, and preparation of solution/standards.
  • Approach analysis of evidence without bias.
  • Develop a conceptual understanding of criminal justice system, rules of evidence, legal system.
  • Graduates are competitive for application to professional schools, graduate programs.
  • Graduates are competitive for employment in a field that uses their degree.
  • Develop oral and written communication skills through the sequence of courses, with particular attention to development of the ability to present technical information without bias, at a variety of levels.
  • Develop the ability to use diplomacy and professionalism in group interactions throughout the sequence of courses.
  • Produce graduates who demonstrate ethical backgrounds and who can articulate the ethical and professional standards of the discipline.
  • Graduates perform at a satisfactory level on standardized exams chosen to measure their performance.
