Studying German at Adrian College means drawing upon resources from a faculty with decades of teaching, travel, and professional development. The program has received international recognition from our affiliated program at Heidelberg University in Germany. Students in the German program are well-prepared to study abroad and are able to order in restaurants, travel around Europe, and read a newspaper or novel. AC students are successful in competing with native German speakers in classes at our overseas study sites. Our students' strong preparation has allowed them to study and excel in subjects from art to literature to Calculus-based physics, all taught in the German language.
If you are a student of Professor Ron Elardo, your activities in the classroom will merge language studies with topics such as mythology, psychology, history, art, music, and architecture. Because of Professor Elardo's training in literature and psychology, German majors are treated to an array of topics such as the occult or "things that go bump in the night." His extensive experience as a translator, business consultant, and legal advisor allows him to expose German students to up-to-date information on Germany's very significant role in the world economy.
On special occasions you'll find yourself helping to prepare and then enjoying a traditional German meal. You'll also find yourself capable of presenting research topics on business, literature, art, teaching methodology, and philology, to name a few. You might even accompany one of the German faculty on a trip to German-speaking areas of Europe.
