The purpose of this program is to provide the student with the prerequisite course work necessary for entrance into a pre-professional allied health program other than medical school, dental school, or physical therapy (e.g., occupational therapy, physician assistant, optometry, pharmacy, pharmaceutical representatives, medical equipment representatives, etc.). Since requirements for these pre-professional careers vary, this option under the Health Science Studies major provides flexibility for the student to work with the Program Coordinator to design a specific curriculum to help the student meet entrance requirements for their career goals. In addition to meeting entrance requirements for a specific allied health program, this program is designed to provide concentrations in the areas of health and fitness which serve not only to support the health science career choices, but which also provide strong preparation in the developing areas of emergency medicine, athletic training and rehabilitation, physical therapy assistant, dental hygiene, pharmaceutical sales, cardiac rehabilitation and occupational therapy for students who choose not to pursue the original health science goal. This program also provides an excellent preparation for graduate study in exercise physiology, biomechanics, motor development, etc.
