The Health Science major is a Bachelor of Science degree program. This program offers students an interdisciplinary approach to study health science, the broad perspective of health and wellness at the population level and to explore health care systems.
The curriculum is based on a strong foundation in the health sciences. The first two years include core courses in the biological and chemical sciences, including human anatomy and physiology, a humanities core, and a health care systems core. Electives may be employed to pursue further study in a discipline specific health field, or to explore broader-based interests. In the final two years of the program, students are offered practicum experience at a selection of health care sites in the Boston area.Students who achieve a 3.3 GPA may elect to do a research project/thesis in their senior year. Students will graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree Health Science and, if selected, a minor in a specific health concentration or other discipline.
Graduates from this program may pursue employment in the health care field (e.g. public health or other community agencies, insurance industry, hospitals, or pharmaceutical industry) or may pursue graduate level education in a health professional field (e.g. public health, rehabilitation sciences), medical sciences, health administration, or laboratory science. Careful selection of available courses will optimize admission to desired graduate degree programs.
Students registered in this program are eligible for an accelerated 5-year Bachelor of Science and Master of Public Health degree (BS/MPH), offered in conjunction with Boston University School of Public Health. Students may apply for admission to the BS/MPH program at the completion of their sophomore year.
