The American Studies Global Perspectives more structured Humanities concentration will focus on the place and significance of the United States in an increasingly globalized world. This program would differ from more traditional American Studies programs at other institutions in its attempt to situate American civilization within a global context. In order to remain viable, American Studies must become much more sensitive to the experience of people of diverse nationalities and cultures here in the United States, and to the role of American culture abroad. In addition to two interdisciplinary seminars, students may choose 24 credits of courses in philosophy, history, literature, communication and media studies, political science, gender studies, and sociology from an approved list.
