International studies is an interdisciplinary major for students interested in global political, economic, historical, and cultural affairs. The major has three components: social sciences; economics and business; and culture. The first of these components entails the study of international relations, comparative government and history. The second component provides basic business skills and an understanding of international economic forces. The final component develops a greater understanding of other societies and cultures.

Many career opportunities await the International Studies graduate. Some of these include federal government service (ranging from the Department of State to the Peace Corps); private sector employment (such as international banking, international trade, political risk analysis); international organizations (the United Nations, the European Union, the Organization of American States); and graduate or law school.
