International Studies is an interdisciplinary program which offers the B.A. Degree International Studies, International Studies with a separate track for non-U.S. students who wish to focus on the United States, and a Certificate in International Studies for interested students with related majors.
Departmental requirements for the BA in International Studies (non-U.S. track) are as follows:
1.
Foreign language, 0-15 hours: The student must demonstrate first semester junior level proficiency in a second language, depending upon degree emphasis. Credit hours in other languages may be transferred from other institutions.
2.
Required courses, 6 hours: POLS 483: INTS 499.
3.
Geographic concentration, 9 hours, chosen from either Latin from 478, 490: FLSP 353) or European history and literature (3 hours, HIST 474 and 6 hours from HIST 472, 473, 476; FLFR 351, 352: FLSP 352). Language courses listed here may satisfy 3 of the 15 hour foreign language requirement. One Study Abroad experience related to the student's chosen geographic region is required.
4.
Interdisciplinary distribution, 15 hours, chosen from at least three of the following areas:
a. Business: BUSA 419.
b. Communication: COMS 345, 383.
c. Geography: GEOG 354.
d. International studies: INTS 400.
e. Literature: FLFR 484, FLSP 482, 483.
f. Missions: BMIS 245, 331, 371. (BMIS 331 or 371 may satisfy the general education advanced Bible requirement.)
g. Political science: POLS 345, 357, 358, 484, 485.
5.
A minimum GPA of 2.25 for courses in major.
