The Jewelry / Metal Arts Program encourages personal expression through the creation of jewelry, functional objects, and sculpture. Students have the opportunity to explore a variety of processes and materials through courses taught by nationally and internationally renowned faculty.

The program builds on a foundation of traditional and contemporary metal smithing techniques, emphasizing skilled craftsmanship, conceptual rigor, design, aesthetics, and familiarity with the medium's history.

The curriculum covers the full range of techniques for the production of jewelry, holloware, and small metal sculpture, including soldering, cold connections, forging, casting, enameling, stone setting, and creating hinges and mechanisms.

The facilities include three work areas with state-of-the-art ventilation systems, individual professional jeweler's benches with flexible shafts, a wide range of tools, and a dedicated senior studio.

Students have the opportunity to intern with professional metal artists in the San Francisco Bay Area, and the program regularly hosts leading artists in the field for lectures and workshops. Our students have received student and minority grants from the Society of North American Goldsmiths and scholarships from the Women's Jewelry Association. Students and alumni regularly show their work in national juried competitions and invitational venues.
