Photojournalism is much more than simply taking a picture. That’s why our photojournalism sequence is more than just a camera class.

As a photojournalism sequence journalism major, you learn the theory and techniques of reporting for newspapers and other media—with a camera. Like your colleagues who report with pen, paper, audio recorder, and computer, you will develop skills in storytelling but in a visual way using digital photograpy and video. You will become well versed about the use of photos not only in publications but also within public relations and advertising.

Enroll in the photojournalism sequence, and you will receive comprehensive instruction and experience in operating a digital single-lens-reflex camera (DSLR) and in the content, composition, and print quality of photography. You will develop expertise in lighting photographs for news, public relations, and advertising purposes and creating photo stories, essays, and sequences.

Our program will also prepare you to be proficient in editing photographs for newspapers, magazines, and other publications. You will learn to use light, motion, composition, body language, and expression—selecting single or multiple images and positioning them on the page to tell compelling stories.
