Liberal Studies is an interdisciplinary major primarily for students in elementary-level
education, including early childhood education and special education. It is intended
as a "super" general education by requiring competencies across a broad
spectrum of knowledge rather than in-depth study of a single discipline, which
will be just the sort of preparation most suitable for teaching at the lower grades.
Individuals who intend to earn majors in both Education and Liberal Studies will
work with advisors in both fields.
Students who desire a broad general education in the best tradition of the
liberal arts and who wish to avoid the specialization of a major field may also
elect the Liberal Studies major.
