The Manufacturing Engineering Technology (MET) program concentration provides students with educational experiences in the major elements of manufacturing. Graduates are able to apply their knowledge and understanding to manufacturing processes, troubleshooting, problem solving, project management, and supervision to fulfill many career opportunities.

Two sequences of study have been developed within the manufacturing concentration:

  • Programming & Automation--a multi-disciplinary course of studies in manufacturing (primary) and electronics (secondary) that will prepare students for challenging jobs in the complex world of industrial automation design, installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance.

  • General Manufacturing--a study of the materials, processes, and analytical tools used in modern, world-class manufacturing environments.

    Educational Objectives of the MET Program
    Graduates of the Manufacturing Engineering Technology program at East Tennessee State University will:
  • Possess the ability to communicate effectively in oral, written, and graphical modes.
  • Have the knowledge, abilities and skills required to adapt to evolving technological situations and pursue life-long learning.
  • Use acceptable industry standards and ethical judgments to identify, evaluate, and solve complex problems.
  • Be technically qualified and possess fundamentals to function effectively within an engineering enterprise.
  • Function effectively as manufacturing technologists in the state and regional industries dealing with manufacturing, production, and support systems.
  • Function effectively in team-oriented open-ended activities in an industrial environment.
  • Possess the capability of attaining professional goals, outcomes, and growth opportunities.

    Career Opportunities in Manufacturing
    Upon completion of the four-year degree program, the graduate will be capable of performing job assignments which may involve working in one or more of the following technical areas:
  • Plant engineering;
  • Robotics;
  • Machinery maintainance;
  • Manufacturing services;
  • Component manufacture;
  • Estimating;
  • Process control.
  • Inspection and testing;
  • Work standards measurements;
  • Sales engineering and representation;
  • Supervision of manufacturing processes;
  • Assisting with research & development;
  • Design, development, and implementation of engineering plans;
  • Specification, fabrication, and installation of manufacturing equipment;
  • Instrumentation and sensor specification, installation, and monitoring;
