With the news cycle flowing 24/7 and the prevalence of Internet-based technologies, skilled media professionals are in high demand.
"People turn to television, radio and their Web sites for news and information. This won't change whether the economy is good or bad; news and entertainment will be in demand, vital elements of our daily lives. As cable, the Web and related technologies grow, so do the sources and kinds of information available. The mass media are a growth industry in services -- and careers." - Vernon Stone, Communication Career Guide (2002)
To meet this demand, Champlain has built a strong collection of media communications programs, enabling students to earn solid communication skills while specializing in one of several exciting career fields.
The Broadcasting program balances theory and practice, preparing you for work in areas such as television, radio, audio, video and digital production. Gain hands-on experience with industry-quality equipment in a television studio and digital editing suite and with internships at Burlington-area media outlets and companies.
The Mass Communication program draws on courses in public relations, broadcasting, advertising and multimedia, offering you exposure to multiple fields to learn communication skills that can be applied to a broad range of careers. Learn how communications operate in cultural, economic and technological contexts to produce ethical and enlightened work in the communications arena.
The Public Relations program prepares you to become the communications link between any type of organization and its public. Learn the art of communication to help an organization create and maintain its positive image. You will study and practice varied communication activities from special event planning, media relations and public speaking to creating of news releases, brochures and newsletters.
