William & Mary's Program in Medieval and Renaissance Studies allows undergraduates with an interest in Europe between 300 AD and 1700 AD to explore that period's history and culture. As an interdisciplinary program, Med-Ren offers students the chance -- indeed, it requires them -- to complete a rigorous program of coursework in several different academic disciplines. Thus, compared to more traditional majors, Med-Ren affords its students a high degree of flexibility. Many students who major or minor in Med-Ren also major or minor in one of the fields that contribute to the program (Art History, Classical Studies, English, History, Modern Languages, Music, Philosophy, and Religious Studies), thereby blending the freedom of an interdisciplinary major with the focus of a more traditional major.
