Deaf Education Track The Deaf Education program is a comprehensive four year program designed to expose students to the various methodologies in the field. Through course work, observation, and field placement, students will gain knowledge that will prepare them to take the Texas State Board for Educator Certification in Deaf Education and the Texas Assessment for Sign Communication - American Sign Language.
Students are required to take four semesters of American Sign Language to complete their foreign language requirements. The proram involves spending their junior year observing and participating in an on-campus oral-only program for instructing deaf children and spending their senior year in a full-time student teaching placement in a predominantly sign-only environment.
