The music education major prepares students to become music teachers
in the public schools. The program leads to a Bachelor of Arts in Music
Education and a teaching certification in general, choral and instrumental
music in grades Pre-K through Adult. Because this major represents a
comprehensive teaching specialization, no second teaching field is required.
In addition to music classes, lessons and ensembles, music education
students take courses offered by the Education Department that are common
to all Education majors .However, methods courses and student teaching experiences focus specifically on music education, and instruction in methods courses and supervision of student teaching are provided by the music faculty.
