The student completing a Music Ministry (B.S. only) emphasis will:
1. Demonstrate familiarity with resources and tools necessary to administrate the music program of a church.
2. Demonstrate familiarity with the multiple methods of using music to lead worship services that are Bible-Centered, appropriate, and effective for the local church.
3. Know about the history of music and how it correlates with the historical use of music in the church.
4. Have opportunities to participate in group musical activities that will assist them in demonstrating how to work with others while contributing to shared musical experiences which are God-honoring.
5. Understand fundamentals of music theory and composition and demonstrate the ability to write, assimilate, and arrange music appropriate for the local church.
6. Develop a music philosophy which is Bible-based and reflective of their faith and desire to lead men and women to Christ and/or a deeper commitment to Him.
REQUIREMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS:
1. Students desiring to major in music ministry are expected to be enrolled in private study (voice, piano, or organ) every semester that they are majors.
2. They are also required to participate in the College Chorale every semester that they are declared as a music major. All applied music courses (lessons and ensembles) are worth ½ hour of academic credit.
3. Students desiring to major in music ministry must apply to the department following the completion of the third semester at Central and be accepted in order to pursue a music ministry degree.
4. Students will complete at least one recital in their major instrument (voice, piano, etc.) sometime during their junior or senior year before graduating. This will be scheduled through the music department.
