The Department of Nursing is part of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and offers undergraduate and graduate programs in nursing as well as a variety of health science courses for non-majors. We offer an RN-BS completion program and a variety of Master's degree certificate options including nurse practitioner education. In 2001, we became the first graduate direct entry nursing program in the State of Illinois. The nurse anesthesia program in affiliation with Evanston Northwestern Healthcare School of Anesthesia is one of the oldest and most highly regarded in the country. Admission into these graduate programs is very competitive.
Our students comprise a diverse group of adult learners with a variety of first career interests and future goals. Registered nurses come to advance their careers and gain greater autonomy with a degree or certificate in advanced practice nursing. Non-nurses with an interest in health science and health care seek a personally rewarding career as a professional nurse with the freedom to pursue a variety of non-traditional career paths. Our graduates have successfully achieved positions as bedside nurses, case managers, community health nurses, traveling nurses, unit managers, clinical educators, educational administrators, chief nursing officers, research coordinators, and advanced practice nurses in joint and private practice.
