School Location
Painting at EKU is staffed by faculty who vary their teaching from beginning to advanced levels, while sharing coverage in other areas of the curriculum such as drawing and 2-dimensional design.

As is the case in most other areas, the core course in Painting is required of all degree candidates in the Department of Art, and consists of an introduction to materials and techniques, as well as initial attempts at creative problem solving. Advanced painting courses for BFA candidates or other art majors and minors include study of the figure and various traditional and experimental media. These emphasize self-direction and encourage more in-depth exploration of personal expression and idiom, but group and individual critiques are the common evaluating tools in all painting courses.

Facilities in painting include two dedicated studio spaces, each with both natural and artificial light sources, easels and storage space for student work and materials, and clean up areas. There is space enough in one of the studios for work on large canvases, and for setting up complex subjects or figure poses. Support spaces for painting include a wood-working shop for frame building, and a spray room.
