The Pastoral Ministries Program is designed to prepare students to perform the
duties of the local church. The students will develop the techniques and tools
for effective Bible study and will be assisted in acquiring the personal qualifications
for the pastoral office. Those who complete the Pastoral Ministries Program will
have met the academic requirements for ordination in The Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist
Connection.
The ministerial student upon completion of the requirements of this program
will:
1. Have knowledge of the Bible and be able to apply sound principles of interpretation
and application of Scriptures to real-life situations.
2. Exhibit the applications of the Bible in order to be a godly person qualified
for the pastoral office, particularly within The Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist
Connection.
3. Be acquainted with the great doctrines of the Bible, the great systems
of doctrine, especially the Wesleyan-Arminian system, and the field of biblical
theology.
4. Exhibit a knowledge of the philosophy, religious ideas, and problems of
the contemporary world as the setting of his ministry. The student should develop
a true Christian worldview.
5. Acquire the skills of proper sermon preparation and delivery, and the importance
of spiritual anointing.
6. Have an acquaintance with the history, theology, and methods of evangelism
and missions. The student should be able to do the work of an evangelist, present
the gospel in personal witnessing, teach the Bible in small group settings,
demonstrate the ability to preach evangelistically from the pulpit, and organize
efforts for community evangelism and a local church missionary program.
