The Physical Education, Health Education Coaching Program prepares students for teaching in elementary and secondary schools, independent schools and colleges, youth agencies, social service organizations, health and fitness practices, and community-based associations. Students wishing to become physical education teachers, and fitness trainers or consultants begin their studies in the Physical Education, Health Education Coaching program. Throughout all four years, the approach is interdisciplinary, with courses from the life sciences, the humanities, and the social sciences all complementing the professional education courses.
Students at the undergraduate level also participate in a program of motor skill development. Starting in the first year, students are placed in a variety of field settings designed to develop their teaching competency in preparation for careers as teachers and activity/recreation leaders of youth and the elderly. The field experiences include observation and teaching in public schools, social agencies, private schools, fitness centers, and selected hospitals and clinics.
