Aristotle wrote that people are, by nature, political animals. Political science, the study of politics government, helps students to become informed and participating citizens, increases global awareness and fosters critical thinking skills by analyzing current issues in American and international politics.
The political science major is career-based. In addition to studying the content and theory of political science, students will focus on knowledge and skills for employment. Many courses will include opportunities for experiential and service-learning related to employment opportunities. Also, the major will integrate throughout the curriculum the concept of “transformational politics” where students seek to effect change/improvement and are empowered to be active participants in U.S. and international politics.
Students have an opportunity to enhance their career skills through experience and training in the use of technology including the Internet, computer databases, presentation software, and other appropriate technology.
Students may obtain a major in political science.
The track is available in the major: American politics.
