Students intending to pursue a career in pharmacy are encouraged to take courses in mathematics, biology, chemistry, and physics while they are in high school. It is more important to take at least one class in each of the sciences than it is to take two years in a single science. This broad preparation will allow students to proceed with the science courses required as pharmacy school prerequisites. It is important to note that professional schools do not usually accept AP credit for their prerequisities.
Lab classes at Centre are small, with a typical lab size of 16 students in freshman courses and smaller numbers of students in the advanced courses. More importantly, these small classes are taught by faculty members who hold doctorate degrees. Students in lab classes at Centre have routine access to major research instrumentation that is not available to students at most universities, where such lab equipment is dedicated to research use.
