Behavioral Neuroscience is a new interdisciplinary program at AU that is based
in Behavioral Science, Biology and Mathematics. Its purpose is to provide new
opportunities for undergraduates to prepare for exciting careers in the fascinating,
rapidly growing scientific fields which involve the study of the brain and its
control of behavior. Students will be involved in hands-on, laboratory experiences,
using the latest equipment as well as class work which will emphasize neuronal
function, processing by the brain and the latest understanding of topics such
as perception, memory, cognition, sensory input, the basis for mental and emotional
disorders, drug addiction and other topics. Research with a faculty mentor is
an integral part of the program and is supported by student scholarships provided
by the National Science Foundation grant. Students who enter this program will
complete a common core of classes and choose one of three emphases outlined
below to complete a BS degree in either Biology or Psychology.
