PREREQUISITES FOR ENTERING THE PSYCHOLOGY DEPARTMENT: Successful completion of Psychology 101, Introduction to Psychology and Psychology 251, Quantitative Methods by the end of the sophomore year. Students may also fulfill the Quantitative Methods prerequisite by substituting either ORF 245, or ECO 202 for PSY251. Courses at another college or university may be substituted for PSY251 only if preapproved by the Faculty Departmental Representative in the Psychology Department.
EARLY CONCENTRATION: Sophomores who have fulfilled the prerequisites may apply for early concentration. If accepted, they may engage in independent reading with a faculty adviser and submit a paper at the end of the spring semester. This preparation may qualify them for more advanced independent work in the junior year.
Students who opt for early concentration and complete their Junior Independent Work by the middle of their junior year, can then begin their senior thesis research in the spring semester of that year. In many instances, this will allow the concentrator to complete a senior independent project of much greater depth and quality.
Sophomores who follow this schedule have the option of handing in their First Junior Paper in April of their sophomore year, and the Second Junior Paper in January of the following year.
