The Religion program offers courses of study leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree
in Religion. Courses in Religion are designed to encourage students to reflect
on the meaning of life, of religious faith, and of Christian living. This program
is designed to lead the student into a deeper appreciation of the great religious
and moral insight of Israel, Jesus, and His followers, and the meaning of these
for present day life. The primary purpose of the degree in Religion is to prepare
the student for the pastorate or related Christian service, or graduate and/or
seminary training in Bible and theology.
OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the Division of Religion are to:
*Introduce students to the historical development of major world religions
(e.g. Judaism, Islam, and Christianity).
*Broaden the student’s knowledge of the Christian Religion, its origin
and its historical development.
*Develop student skills in the historical method of research in Biblical theological
studies.
*Provide the student with a knowledge of and appreciation for the contribution
of African Americans and “persons of color” in the development of
the major religions of the world.
*Emphasize to students the importance of analyzing and applying Christian principles
to the social issues of today.
*Develop the student’s appreciation for the relationship between religion
and other academic disciplines.
*Develop the student’s ability to analyze and think logically in religious
studies.
*Provide students with knowledge of church administration procedures.
*Develop the student’s appreciation for various worship expressions.
*Develop the student’s skills in the area of library research.
