Respiratory therapists save lives every day. Whether they are participating in CPR or administering therapy that allows patients to breathe easier, therapists make life better for those around them. Do you want to save lives, too?

Respiratory therapists gain the knowledge, skills, and actions that contribute to the quality of life of anyone with cardiopulmonary disease, injury or impairment. It doesn’t matter if your patient is a premature infant or an octogenarian. Therapists provide care to the entire life spectrum. Their role is comprehensive: they provide diagnostic testing, therapy, education, and life support

They may practice in a hospital, nursing home, another alternative care facility, a physician’s office, home care company, insurance company, or transport provider. Wherever they practice, they are an integral part of the health care team. In almost all work settings, the respiratory therapist is the second most visible care provider after nurses.

Respiratory therapists are a breed apart. The therapist is thoroughly versed in life sciences, and must enjoy integrating technology into the patient’s care. Testing equipment, therapy equipment, and life support equipment are all sophisticated devices that require both knowledge and physical skills to apply.

If you want a profession that will give you pride and challenge you every day, explore respiratory therapy as your life’s choice. Make a difference in each person’s life you touch!

The respiratory care major at BCHS is accredited by CAAHEP through CoARC. Our students are eligible to participate in the credentialing examinations offered to graduates of accredited programs.
