PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of the Social Science programs of studies, the students will be able to:

*Demonstrate knowledge of basic social science concepts, values, and techniques necessary to analyze world events, processes, and cultures.
*Demonstrate understanding of psychological, social, economic, and political forces shaping world civilization.
*Describe contemporary American society within the context of American history.
*Identify contemporary economic, social, and political problems and issues in western and non western cultures.
*Apply the principles and methods of geography to analysis of the influences of environment on culture and progress.
*Relate geographical knowledge to the proper use and conservation of the planet’s natural resources.
*Demonstrate ability to use social science research methods to develop and write papers and proposals.
*Apply knowledge, skills, concepts, and values to actual problem solving and community service.

SOCIAL STUDIES/PRE LAW CONCENTRATION
Those who are planning careers in law or government may choose 12 hours from the following courses beyond the Social Science program requirements:

*SSH 203 American History I 3 credits
*SSH 204 American History II 3 credits
*SSH 306 African American History II 3 credits
*SSC 403 Criminal Justice 3 credits
*SSC 408 Juvenile Delinquency 3 credits
*SSP 306 American Government 3 credits
*SSP 307 Fundamentals of American Law 3 credits
*SSP 406 International Relations 3 credits
*SSP 495 Practicum in Political Science 3 credits
