Objectives of the Special Education Grades 1-12 Curriculum
1. Candidates possess in-depth knowledge of the content they will teach as prescribed by the professional association The Council for Exceptional
Children (CEC), state and institutional standards.
2. Candidates demonstrate a full understanding of the relationship of content and content specific pedagogy delineated by CEC, state and institutional standards.
3. Candidates demonstrate understanding of professional and pedagogical knowledge.
4. Candidates have the ability to provide multiple explanations and instructional strategies so that all students learn.
5. Candidates develop meaningful learning experiences to facilitate learning for all students.
6. Candidates analyze student, classroom and school performance data and make data driven decisions about strategies for teaching and learning so that all students learn.
7. Candidates work with students, families, colleagues and communities in ways that reflect the professional dispositions expected of educators as delineated by CEC, state and institutional standards.
8. Candidates demonstrate classroom behaviors that create caring and supportive learning environments and encourage self-directed learning by all students.
9. Candidates recognize when their own professional dispositions may need to be adjusted and are to develop plans to do so.
