The four-year, competency-based program leads to a Bachelor of Science degree education and state certification for teaching the mentally and/or physically handicapped children.
A cumulative development program design provides an opportunity for candidates to complete a sequence of six developmental levels in special education through which the retention and transfer of knowledge and skills from semester to semester is made possible. Students are taught to view individuals with disabilities humanistically. An intensive field experience component is coordinated with class instruction.
Candidates for the B. S. Degree Education with a major in special education are eligible to pursue certification in grades K-12 through the Pennsylvania teacher certification testing program.
