Theatre is the quintessential liberal art—the perfect model of experiential learning. Theatre holds a mirror up to nature, allowing us to see ourselves and see our place in the universe in a manner that is at once both immediate and timeless. Students and faculty work side-by-side to achieve the finished product. Theatre students develop artistic, analytical, critical and organizational capabilities as they work to realize their full creative potential.
What will I study?
The theatre curriculum integrates theory, history and practice, including foundational training in acting, directing, dramatic writing and design, and culminates in a performance project for the public. Theatre students are actively involved in the departmental production program.
Whatever aspect of theatre you’re interested in, Agnes Scott’s theatre program will provide challenging courses taught by knowledgeable professors. Want to become an actor? Try Acting I or Acting II. Interested in playwriting or screenwriting? Try a course in Dramatic Writing or Topics in Creative Writing. How about directing? Direct your play in Directing II. Interested in design? Try Design for the Stage I and II and learn the principles of costume, scenic and lighting design.
