Bachelor degrees in Actuarial Science: A program that focuses on the mathematical and statistical analysis of risk, and their applications to insurance and other business management problems. Includes instruction in forecasting theory, quantitative and non-quantitative risk measurement methodologies, development of risk tables, secondary data analysis, and computer-assisted research methods.
The Department of Mathematics offers the bachelor science degree with a concentration in actuarial science. Courses taken in the department and in the College of Business Administration prepare an individual for the first two actuarial exams.

The major in actuarial science provides students with the mathematics and business education necessary to enter the actuarial profession and prepares students for the professional actuarial exams. Actuaries apply the theory of probability and statistics along with the principles of finance to analyze and solve problems in insurance, pension plans, social security issues, and related fields....
The Department of Mathematics has five goals for its degree programs:
1. Students should develop skills in problem-solving.
2. Students should develop their ability to communicate mathematical ideas.
3. Students should attain a reasonable proficiency at understanding and creating mathematical proofs.
4. Students should be aware of a broad variety of applications, both in and out of mathematics.
5. Students should appreciate the...
The Actuarial Science major is designed to prepare the student with a thorough understanding of mathematics with a special emphasis on those areas of mathematics used in actuarial science. The program is broad enough to allow the student to continue on with graduate studies in mathematics or actuarial science; however, most students will first seek a job in industry or government. This program requires 36 hours in the major and 18-25 hours in a selected...
