Art historians are concerned with the many-faceted historical implications (personal, social, political, economic, and aesthetic) of imagery and objects (buildings, paintings, sculpture, prints, drawings, photographs, films and decorative arts). They study the makers, critics, patrons and users of these objects and images. Investigations reveal changing views of humanity and the world that develop a student's own critical perspective.
The History of Art Program offers a variety of courses in ancient to contemporary Western art and Asian art. Students may specialize in a given area and choose a faculty advisor who will guide your work. The honors program in art history requires the completion of a senior thesis written under the close supervision of an advisor and a faculty committee. You may also receive academic credit for internships taken in off-campus museums and art galleries.
