Bachelor degrees in Creative Writing: A program that focuses on the process and techniques of original composition in various literary forms such as the short story, poetry, the novel, and others. Includes instruction in technical and editorial skills, criticism, and the marketing of finished manuscripts.
The Major in Creative Writing may be declared at the completion of a minimum of three courses in directed writing and of ENG 11a, Literary Method. The Major will consist of ten courses, with a minimum requirement of four workshops.

Students choosing this option for the major in English develop their talents as creative writers in different genres, including poetry, fiction, non-fictional prose, memoir and life-writing and playwriting. Students are strongly urged to create a writer‘s portfolio and work on, or submit writing to student publications. This concentration requires successful completion of at least five (15 credits) of the following courses:

The writing and literature program is based on the principle that the study of literature is essential for students who seek careers in either publishing or journalism or who hope to pursue a Master of Fine Arts in writing.
