This degree program is designed for the student who may wish to double major in music and another field of study. This is a liberal arts degree that provides a strong foundation for graduate studies in Music as well as other arts-related fields.
The 8-unit music major is for students who have strong musical interests
but who do not necessarily intend to pursue a full-time professional career
in music.
Students in the 8-unit major should begin their study by enrolling in the following
courses in the fall of their first or second year: Music 101 & 101L (1 unit),
an applied music lesson (.5 unit) and a departmental ensemble (.25 unit). If

Thirty-six credits which must include Music 111, 112, 201, or 214 and 215, 211, 212, 443, 444, 445 and 500. Music 500 is a senior project and may take the form of a recital, research paper or other department-approved project. Requests for Music 500 project must be received by the end of the year preceding graduation. Students are strongly advised to continue their study of voice or an instrument through studio lessons and ensembles.
A liberal arts degree allows one to pursue a broad range of interests while majoring
in music. The BA with a major in music is viable as a double major.
