Bachelor degrees in Neurobiology and Neurophysiology: A program that focuses on the scientific study of the cellular and molecular basis of the lower and higher neural functions in animals and human beings, organ system behavior and the immune response, and the control of physiological systems. Includes instruction in computational biology, computer modeling, protein biochemistry, electrophysiology, morphological basis of behavior, neural signal transduction and reception, synaptic activity, neurotransmission, sensory perception and sensorimotor interaction, inflammation and neurodegeneration, neurological and autoimmune disease, immune response, maintenance of homeostasis, and autonomic function.
Neuroscience majors take: 1) a set of core courses that include biology, chemistry, neuroscience, and statistics, 2) a group of three upper level courses that have either a cellular/molecular neurobiology or behavioral and cognitive neuroscience emphasis, 3) a junior seminar course, and 4) a two-semester neuroscience senior project. Neuroscience students are also encouraged to do independent study courses and summer internships....
The Neuroscience major consists of science courses in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, and Psychology, plus the senior seminar and comprehensives. Neuroscience majors also often choose to do a senior honors thesis in the laboratory of one of the Neuroscience faculty. To major in Neuroscience, it's necessary to get started in the first year; we offer some typical course schedules of recent Neuroscience majors. Neuroscience has one of the highest...
The desire to understand human and animal behavior in terms of nervous system structure and function is long standing. Historically, this task has been approached from a variety of disciplines including medicine, biology, psychology and physiology. The field of neuroscience emerged as an interdisciplinary approach, combining techniques and perspectives from these disciplines to yield new insights into the workings of the nervous system and behavior.

The concentration in neuroscience allows students to explore the interdisciplinary field at the interface between biology and psychology. This program prepares students for graduate study or employment in neuroscience or biomedical fields. Recent graduates have pursued research in neurodegenerative diseases, molecular neuroscience, and neuroimmunology.
The Program of Study in neurobiology and behavior covers a range of topics, all concerned in some way with what animals do and the neural mechanisms that enable them to do it. Students are required to take the introductory courses in neurobiology and behavior. Most of the faculty members associated with this Program of Study participate in these courses. The student then has a choice of many different second- and third-level courses that permit further...
The Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology (NBB) Major, which leads to a Bachelor of Science degree, is an interdisciplinary program that provides a unique science background and an excellent foundation for advanced studies in biological and behavioral research as well as medicine.
The program draws upon the resources, expertise, enthusiasm, and commitment of a diverse faculty, including representatives from biology, psychology, anthropology, chemistry,...
