About this School
Benedictine College is a small university in Atchison, Kansas. It is a Roman Catholic, Benedictine, residential liberal arts college located on bluffs overlooking the Missouri River. One of a number of U.S. Benedictine colleges, it is sponsored by St. Benedict's Abbey and Mount St. Scholastica. Undergraduate programs include Art, Astronomy, Mass Communications, Theatre, Philosophy, Religious Studies, Music, Biology, Computer Science, Education, History, English, Sociology (including Criminology), Math and Physics. Masters degree programs include Education and Business. Its predecessors were Mount St. Scholastica College and St. Benedict's College, which merged on July 1, 1971. The Nobel Peace Prize laureate Wangari Maathai studied at the Mount from 1960 to 1964. The school's sports teams wear black, red and white uniforms and are called the Ravens. St. Benedict is usually pictured with a raven.
