The Associate of Arts in General Studies degree is intended for students who desire to come to Central for two years before obtaining a Bachelor's degree from another institution. These degrees have slightly fewer hours in Bible and ministry, with slightly increased hours in General Studies, taught from a Christian perspective.
OBJECTIVES:
Students who complete an Associate degree should . . .
1. Demonstrate a thorough working knowledge of the Bible and its essential doctrines and a Christian worldview harmonizing significant historical, scientific, and philosophical issues with biblical truth.
2. Develop skills in observation and interpretation, in critical and creative thinking; and in problem-solving, particularly in relationship to biblical exegesis and application.
3. Develop knowledge of the biblical languages in order to have a clearer understanding of the original texts.
4. Comprehend, embrace, and demonstrate the biblical principles of spirituality, morality, Christ-like character, and service as modeled and taught by Christ and His disciples.
5. Demonstrate familiarity with multiple methods of communication within a variety of settings; having as a communicator confidence to overcome apprehension, conviction to consider ethical implications, and commitment to utilizing opportunities for communication.
6. Understand the nature and demands of the Great Commission, be committed to personal discipleship and disciple-making, and participate in some way in the task of taking the Gospel to all the nations. | |

The student completing a Music Ministry (B.S. only) emphasis will:
1. Demonstrate familiarity with resources and tools necessary to administrate the music program of a church.
2. Demonstrate familiarity with the multiple methods of using music to lead worship services that are Bible-Centered, appropriate, and effective for the local church.
3. Know about the history of music and how it correlates with the historical use of music in the church.
4. Have opportunities to participate in group musical activities that will assist them in demonstrating how to work with others while contributing to shared musical experiences which are God-honoring.
5. Understand fundamentals of music theory and composition and demonstrate the ability to write, assimilate, and arrange music appropriate for the local church.
6. Develop a music philosophy which is Bible-based and reflective of their faith and desire to lead men and women to Christ and/or a deeper commitment to Him.
REQUIREMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS:
1. Students desiring to major in music ministry are expected to be enrolled in private study (voice, piano, or organ) every semester that they are majors.
2. They are also required to participate in the College Chorale every semester that they are declared as a music major. All applied music courses (lessons and ensembles) are worth ½ hour of academic credit.
3. Students desiring to major in music ministry must apply to the department following the completion of the third semester at Central and be accepted in order to pursue a music ministry degree.
4. Students will complete at least one recital in their major instrument (voice, piano, etc.) sometime during their junior or senior year before graduating. This will be scheduled through the music department.

The B.R.S. Ministry degree is ideal for a student who has accumulated several hours of college credit from one or more institutions, and then wants to complete a Bachelor's degree with Biblical and ministry training. In order to be eligible to obtain a B.R.S. Ministry degree, a student must meet the following qualifications:
1. At least two years of college attendance at an accredited institution besides Central.
2. At least 36 hours of approved general studies credits earned at an accredited institution with a grade of C or greater.
3. At least 24 hours of approved general elective credits earned at an accredited institution with a grade of C or greater.
