The Doctorate of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine program is designed to increase the skills and expertise of practitioners in the following ways: (1) provide a specialty in pain management, TCM dermatology or women’s health, (2) enable increased interaction and collaboration with Western medical practitioners in integrative medical settings, (3) deepen critical thinking skills with emphasis on diagnosis, analysis, problem solving and decision-making, and (4) increase ability to effectively use medical research findings in developing treatment approaches and in formulating health care decisions. The over-arching goals of the program are to develop lifelong learning/practice skills and provide a credential which demonstrates an advanced level of training relevant to professional work in diverse academic, clinical and research settings.


The program schedule is designed to accommodate licensed acupuncturists who wish to complete the degree while maintaining a clinical practice. It is taught by highly educated and experienced faculty members from both Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western medicine. The program consists of 552 didactic hours and 732 clinical hours (the total program is 1,284 hours/76.5 quarter credits), and culminates with a 252-hour clinical
experience that can be completed in China or the United States.
