The Graduate Program in Biology offers diverse and integrative training opportunities for students seeking the Ph.D. degree in the biological sciences. A master's degree may be obtained by students en route to the Ph.D. or by those who leave the doctoral program; students primarily interested in a terminal master's degree are not admitted to the program.
The Biology Department provides training opportunities in the following broad range of research areas: ecology (including behavioral ecology, population biology, community ecology, physiological ecology, ecosystem analysis, and biogeochemistry), functional biology at the cell and molecular level (including cellular physiology, molecular genetics, developmental biology, developmental genetics, genomics, and bioinformatics, in both plant and animal systems), functional biology at the organismal level (including comparative physiology, functional morphology, biomechanics, and animal behavior), and evolutionary biology (including population genetics, evolutionary ecology, evolutionary morphology, macroevolution, biogeography, and systematics).
