The Ph.D. programs, based on a focused curriculum and a no-nonsense timeline, are designed to train students for faculty and leadership BME positions in universities, hospitals, and industry. Students pursue coursework and research in a wide range of potential areas as represented by the faculty (see Research Porfolio). Most graduate students join research groups at the beginning of their first semester of residence and start thesis research soon afterwards. The requirements are flexible, allowing the student to develop a program that is best suited to his or her background and career goals. The time to completion is 4.5 years on average based on Bachelor's level preparation, and may be as short as three years with a M.S. degree upon entry.
