The DBA program in Policy Management focuses on the roles and functions of general management in four settings:

entrepreneurial
related business
service business
diversified multinational enterprise

All students develop discipline-based expertise in at least two of these four types of enterprise and become conversant with the literature of the others. For those with a particular interest in entrepreneurial ventures or international management, sub-specializations are available in these two fields. All students gain an understanding of the economic, social, and ethical bases of influence and decision-making for general managers. Perhaps the most distinctive feature of this specialization is its multidisciplinary perspective, which involves the study of such topics as organizational learning, development of influence networks in strategic alliances, and transition from entrepreneurial to professional management.

The Policy Management program draws on economic, behavioral, and administrative theory to focus on the firm and its management. Through a combination of discipline- and field-based methods, the curriculum enables students to master concepts and research skills directly relevant to business problems. Candidates must come to understand the point of view of practicing managers and be able to bring theory and careful research to bear in illuminating important business problems.
